Just picked up an African Butterfly fish

Sure is a neat species! Giant mouth. I have read 50/50 that they will eat neons which I have in the tank with him so we will see what happens. The sunset gourami is very interested, he keeps swimming along side of him. The African doesn't seem to mind.

My african butterfly was very docile and laid back at first. However, after the first couple months, I caught him killing two of my platies.

Why would you keep neon tetras with a larger predatory fish and then see what happens?.

i read that some have them with neons and other fish without problems. Also I have read it is generally peaceful as long as you keep it fed. Have been observing him all night. But i guess I shouldn't take that chance if you all think hes no good.

I have a Butterfly with Cardinals and hatchetfish in a 90 gallon tank. Never had any problem. The Bufferfly occupies a slow moving part of the tank and never drops even an inch below the surface. The Cardinals have never approached the surface and the hatchets stay in the fast moving water at the opposite end. They seem fine together
