I just bought 2 dwarf puffers and placed them in their 5 gallon home with rock caves and plants and snails. So far one is quite the little explorer while theother is quite the hider and has found a quiet spot behind a rock. They are only about 1/2 an inch right now. They sure are fun to watch.

Congrats! They are fun. One of my coworkers was so sad when I took mine home--the new fish (dwarf gouramies and kuhlis) don't come up and stare out of the tank at visitors like the puffers did.

Update

Well the poor little guys were a little undernurished as I bought them at WalMart and were being feed flakes (not that they ate them). So they were the worst little hunters over the past coupel of days. But I cought some fresh mosquito larva today and they went crazy for them. Finally their little bellys are getting filled out.

You may want to monitor them a bit more closely than you would some more common fish--I am fairly certain that most stores sell wild caught dwarf puffers, which means there is always a good chance they have internal parasites. I've been lucky, but I know that my LFS treats them for parasites prior to sale. I doubt that Walmart would do so.

I have been watching them quite closely since I bought them, mostly hoping they would figure out how to actually eat a snail. Until they get a little bigger I will continue to watch them and get them fresh mosquito larva. Are there any preventive medicines that you might suggest I give them?
