I have a 50gal aquarium that I am going to set up soon. The filter is a fluval 304, a Prizm protein skimmer, a powerhead and crushed coral for the bottom. when my nitrite decides that it is going to spike I will need to do a water change. was wondering, I have a 3 gal bucket that I can premix the saltwater in. about how much salt do I put in there and also my tap water is a pH of 7.2, will it lower the pH in my tank. what do I do to raise the pH if this should happen? how do I get the good bacteria to grow faster if there is a way? to get algea to grow can I leave the lights on?

I would suggest that you not use tap water. It can contain HIGH amounts of phospates among other chemicals that isn't good for a saltwater setup. If you have access to a LFS that has ro/di water use it, if not try checking at a grocery store. Some stores here in my area carry ro/di water that is only around 70 cents a gallon. Well worth it.

if you are worried about having too high ph or too low ph they have this one product that i cant think of the name of right now and all you have to do is add a certain amount to your tank to make it just right
