I have about 2 aiptasia in my tank. I have seen some pop up about every 2 weeks and trying to pick them off the rock just isn't cuttin it. So anyone know how to use kalkwrasser to kill aiptasia. Also i heard that it is also used to reduce phosphates in water is that true too?
Thanx :)

What I do is mix up some kalk (Pickling Lime) so it fairly thick. Fill a syringe and squirt it on the aiptasia. This way you can place it right where you want it. It does seem to get rid of them. Also I had some small ones that were hard to reach. Thursday I added 6 peppermint shrimp. Can't find the small aiptasia any more. Hard to believe that they ate them that fast!!!

Ok, I don't know how to emphasize this enough -- not all "peppermint" shrimp will eat aiptasias. Only Lysmata wurdemanni specie will eat juvenile aiptasias, Lysmata prima and Lysmata californica will not. So don't expect to go to your LFS, and pick up some so-called peppermint shrimps, and expect they're the right kind that will eat aiptasia. Try the kalk wasser method first.
