right now its in my 75 gal tank because it was being the one stressed out in a 29gal tank with a breeding pair of convicts. Well now the little devil is the mean guy chasing my other fish around in my 75 gal. Even if there 4 inches bigger than him. I keep waiting to go down there and see him in my Iridecants mouth. But i have another 29gal tank they i just set up and started cycling.

what should i put in there with him i got lots of rocks going in there. Should i just get more kenyis? Or is there other fish that can tolerate the agression.

in my opinion, a kenyi doesn't belong in a tank with 'new world' cichlids and adding more of them will make matters worse rather than better. why? (1)Malawi cichlids are nearly strict vegetarians while new world cichlids need much more protein than Africans can tolerate. (2) African cichlids prefer hard, alkaline water while new world cichlid do better in moderate chemistry.

i did. you asked should you add more and i said NO.

also, you seem to know little about african cichlids. kenyi are known to be very aggressive ... even more than most Mbuna. moreover, they don't behave normally as a single ... they should be maintained in groups. and finally, a 29 gallon tank isn't big enough for Mbuna. a little research would go a long way here.

its going in an EMPTY 29gal tank. Your telling me nothing else can go int there with 1 fish? I find that hard to believe

then you tell me 29gal is to small and i should do some research first. Its not even my fish as i said in the 1st post. Its inbetween homes. And this very sites database says min30gal tank size like 1 gal is going to really matter

You can easily and happily keep the kenyi alone in the 29g. But honestly I wouldn't suggest any more fish - only because the kenyi is really aggressive and territorial and she will no doubt be ornery as hell towards other people in close quarters.

Kenyi can be too aggressive even for some "proper" mbuna setups.

I agree with liv2padl. You shouldnt put anything else with a kenyi in a 29 gal. It will become very aggressive and kill almost anything you put in there.

I have lots of kenyi, and they do become a problem in anything smaller than about a 55 gallon tank. The key to keeping them with other fish like zebras or socolofi is to give them lots of tankmates (crowding) and add the kenyi to the tank last. Even then, a male kenyi will become the dominant fish, but won't be able to focus it's aggression on a single victim. Females are usually more mild. You could put that single fish in a 10 if it is temporary.
