KH drop what to do.......

Instead of trying to buffer the heck out of a weak salt mix like Instant Ocean, why not just switch over to a good reef salt like Reef Crystals or Oceanic?

Sure, you can buffer your tank up to good levels, ie. 380-450ca/7-11dkh/1280-1350mg but then when you do a water change you'll need to buffer up the change water to kinda match the tank water. This would end up being a pain.

I use Oceanic and it mixes up to 450-470 ca/9.3-9.6dkh/1340mg so all I have to do is maintain these levels in the tank for what the corals use. I would hate to have to buffer all these in the makeup water before dong a water change.

Ofcourse, if this tank is FO or FOWLR, the higher levels would only be useful to any snail or crabs in the CUC.
