those totes are as tough as nails. the cage is really there to keep things from damaging the tank in transit -- altho nothing stops a fork lift fork.
they work fine cycling from full to empty based on their own strength; they don't normally touch the rails on the sides. they may not take well to freezing, but again that has to happen a lot in shipping on flatbeds and i've never seen one ruptured by environment or reasonable handling (again, not counting the fork lift stabbing one). seen a couple dropped about 4 feet; one survived, one caught a corner and cracked the pipe on the bottom. (not pretty; it was full of SBR latex)
more durable than a rubbermaid stock tank, but i think it would make an awfully deep pond unless you shorten it. from personal experience that is not easy -- get a sawz-all.
