Killer Shrimp?

would a shrimp hurt a bottem feeder, like a pleco or cory?
Well, this guy was in a tank with two bottom feeders at the store, one very easily eaten if he wanted to. So, I assume not. I'm just really hoping it was a fluke. I'm very attached to my fish and tend to shed tears when they depart, and I really don't want to see anymore eaten alive.

I would personally put him in a Gallon tank and set him in front of the door. He should deter any would be thiefs.

Your shrimp is a Macrobrachium or long-arm shrimp. There are many, many species of these and, yes, they will eat whatever they can catch. Adult size ranges from Ghost shrimp size or a bit larger to well over a foot, depending on the particular species.

IMHO, best in a species tank.

That thing is sweet!

I'd keep it, that's a really neat little guy. Prawn are pretty neat, if you can't stomach live feedings though, he probably won't last long with you.

Hi everyone! Well, I guess the good news is that the LFS took the little guy back. Said that if no one buys him before the store closes that one of the employees will take him home. Also, he is what they call a red claw shrimp, you can read about them here http://www.petshrimp.com/redclawmacro.html. I will probably check back before the 15th when the store closes just to make sure that someone got him. But I just have way too many small tetras, tiny aquatic frogs, loaches and plecos to worry about him taking advantage of an opportunity. Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions.
Take care,
Mary.
