my krib did not eat yesterday nor today. has been breathing very heavy.

my tanks readings are...

Ph 7.4 (down from a 8)
Nitrate 10 (down from a 160)
nitrite 0
amonia 0
Po4 1.0
Kh 8
Gh 11
Co2 9.6ppm
i had high reading before today, did a major w/c again. i had changed the media in my filter the other day but still was geting high nitrate. so cleand out both of the filters. (don't do oftern at the same time. normally do one at a time, but my reading was to high) i got my reading not exactly were i want them but close enough. but my krib still is breathing very heavy. i notice a long clear hair like something hanging out of him(butt) never saw this before.

not sure what to do.

Sounds like an internal parasite.

Do a search on Hexamita (spelling?) info...

Also when you clean your filters- do you completely clean them or just rinse the sponges? All the good bacteria is in the sponges and if you throw them out or rinse them in tap water then you kill/get rid of the good bacteria. :)

i changed the sponges for new ones. i'm aware of the bacteria, however my sponges was horriable!, dark dark brown, and full of all kind of stuff, it look as if it was so cloged, so i replaced them.

this was a last option, since i couldn't get any of my reading high, and lost a dino eel. now that my reading are good i lost my krib.

Just rinse the sponges out really really well in old tank water. Squeeze them and push them against the bottom of the bucket. You'll probebly need 2 or 3 buckets of old tank water in order to get them really clean. The sponges do not need to be changed until they start to deteriorate, no matter how clogged they are. They are sponges- they can be rinsed! ;)
