I have an empty 20 gallon tank with sand, rocks, and driftwood. My lfs has a breeding pair of kribs in a tank with their fry. They said they would sell me both of them and their fry for 12 bucks. Should I buy them and would they be okay in a 20? Thanks for your help.

Since they're a pair, they should be fine...especially if you have a 20 gallon long tank. Depending on the pair, it could be iffy in a 20 high. Put in lots of caves for them...flower pot caves, natural rock caves, PVC pipe caves...kribs like caves. Some dithers like platys or zebra danios would be good, too.

That sounds like a tall. Cichlids almost always prefer a longer tank since they're bottom dwellers mostly. If the pair are doing well, they'll not outgrow the tank but even pairs can be rough on each other...however a good pair of strongly bonded kribs may well be fine.

I'd add 3-4 platys as dithers/targetish fish...something to guard against to help keep the pair from squabbling themselves. Some cichlids will fight amongst themselves if there isn't something to keep those fry safe from!

Yea I could add some platies... I have tons of them in my 55 for my firemouths. They dont play with them and the platies keep breeding. I have like 20 and am trying to get rid of them. So ill throw a couple in with the Kribs. Thanks.
