Hi all,
I have been keeping tropical fish and plants for about 5 years now, and thought I would try a go at ciklids. After looking through some posts and species profiles, it seems I may be able to put a pair of kribensis into my 33 community planted tank. They would share the tank with 8 tiger barbs, pair of blue gouramis, 4 zebra danio and 2 weather loaches and one small pleco. Provided I give them a cave or a broken pot to nest in, there is already plenty of cover from all the plants, do you see a potential problem with the tank mates here? Territory disputes? How many cribs should I put in? One male to one female, or more females?

Thanks for your thoughts

The Kribs do just fine with just about any other community fish... right up until spawning time! Then it doesn't matter what kind of fish it is, if it comes too close to the 'nest' then it WILL get a beating! And I don't care if it is a large Oscar, the Kribs will beat it up! If you provide plenty of hiding spaces, then I don't see to much trouble with what you have listed. I'd suggest just getting one pair... they are fairly easy to sex and generally will start pairing off at about 1". Females get a deep purple belly when going into 'heat'.

i agree with dwarfnut. definately only get one pair(1m 1f). any more than that and youll have some fighting for sure. i put 2 pair in my 55g and it was a free-for-all. needless to say, it became one pair quickly(gave the other pair to a friend). same goes if you get 2 of one sex. my pair has bred 3 times so far. the first batch didnt make it. the 2nd are coming along nicely. the 3rd batch was very small, only 6 now and have been out of the nest with mom for about a week. check out my tank specs for their tankmates.

Thanks all. Got a pot for a cave and some lava rock all set up. Now the only problem is actually finding some kribs in the LFS! I went through 4 last night, even tried Wallmart today, with no luck!
They all have that tank with 'assorted african cichlids', I hope I don't have to pick my 2 kribs out of that colorful bunch.
