I've had my kribs for about a month now...and they've only laid eggs once. and they ate them. But my question is..why haven't they laid moore eggs? I had a 10" pleco in there with them...he might have eatin the eggs...but I just got rid of him..to big.. I got 2 otto/CAE(can't decide) and I think they will lay eggs soon.

how many of your kribs bred the first time? am i reading right that you have 7-10 in your tank? i have 1 pair in a 55g community. if you scan down through the next couple of pages of threads, youll see a few posts on breeding kribs. mine ate their 1st batch of fry as well. even after the eggs hatched and they had been free-swimming after about a week.

ive read that if the parents dont feel that they can adequately protect them, they will eat them. my 2nd batch of fry were "presented" to the tank before thanksgiving and my biggest from that batch is now almost 3/4in. my 3rd batch were presented about 2.5 weeks ago and doing nicely.

one thing about the 3rd batch. it was alot smaller than the 2nd. only 6 in this brood, and the parents arent protecting them quite as well. daddy seems to still want to protect the 2nd batch. mama started running them off a while back and treats them as any other fish. daddy doesnt help mama as much this time around.

but so far, theyre all doing good. dont worry if they dont get it right the first time. good luck with them.

oh yeah. i have a bristlenose pleco, CAEs, SAEs in my tank with them as well as some other community fish.

I have 9 in a 75 gal. They ate the eggs of the first batch. They didn't even hatch. What i was tryin to say..was..doy uo think it was the pleco(common 10") that was eating the eggs. They have all paired up. Cept there is one female left but she seems happy. I haven't seen any eggs since the first ones.

although im not 100% sure, id say that it wasnt the pleco. how long ago did they eat the eggs? the 2nd batch of eggs laid by my kribs started out in a different location from the first. before they hatched, however, mama moved them by mouth to the location where she had the first. this was deep inside a stump where they couldnt be seen until they were hatched and free-swimming.
i dont think youre going to have any problems until they actually do start breeding. and you should know when that happens because they will become more aggressive to the other fish. if you happen to have all 4 breed at the same time, you may really see some fireworks!

you might need to stimulate breeding if you want them to breed more often. I dont know what stimulates kribs.

My old kribs would breed about every month or so. My perimeters werent the greatest, so Im thinking the perimeters might be a problem. They come from the soft acidic waters of the african rivers, so you should try to have soft water with a pH 6-7

btw, first breeders usually eat their eggs.

just to update...two days after I made this post(1/21)....they laid eggs. well they are...I am watching a female and a male go back and forth in a cave..every time switching off. they each stay in for about 10 seconds... and I looked in the cave and there are eggs.. so now the question is.....how long does it take to hatch? and there in the same spot as the first batch.

P.S. the female is awsome looking..all red with DARK black and bright yellow..the male is kinda plale cuz I think he's older...I read they lose color when they get older..but he's doin his job..

P.P.S I can sell the babies to a LFS for about 5 bucks. That means my fish are making me money..uh..I mean breeding.
