Kuhli Loaches

be advised, dojo loaches can get to 6", so make sure you have the proper accomodations.

weather loaches get big, but are nice fish. because of their size, they can root around pretty well. Kuhlis are much smaller, like the one in my picture to the left. Dojos are a whitish yellow color, and I'm not sure how big they get. Kuhlis can also come in a black/dark brown solid color, and those stay small too.

It's important to note, however, that a 6" Dojo and a 6" Clown Loach require very different setups. A 6" Dojo(which I have) is, as already said, long and slender. He's not so large as Clown's. My Dojo is very happy in my 30 gallon. A 6" Clown would not be happy in a 30 gallon.

I just wanted to note that.

I don't think he was looking at clown loaches, rather a dojo or weather loach. He's looking for something eely. If you go to petsmart, they have the dojo and black kuhlis. I'm not for sure about the weather loaches. You can get an idea of what they look like that way.

I suppose what I meant was that he shouldn't be intimidated by a 6" Dojo the same way one may be intimidated by a 6" Clown Loach. See my point?

ahh, gotcha.

I had a weather loach for years. They're interesting fish, and quite friendly. I think it was in a 30 gallon tank. It was just it and a giant pleco, so it was kind of a boring tank to watch. Just a whole lot of sitting still. I didn't know at the time that loaches did better in packs.

I forgot to mention, my Dojo(weather) is extremely friendly and active. He likes to swim between my fingers when I'm rearranging or whatever, he even will eat out of my hand. He's terrific to watch. While perhaps not as colorful as some other loaches, you really start to notice the uniqueness after a while and you appreciate the personality.

Dojo, highly recommended.

Thanks for all the info! I picked up a gold dojo today. He's a sweetie. He's out in the open and swimming around checking out his new pad. I have lots of cover if he wants some.
