Just wondering anybody here have it done or know somebody who has and what did you think about it? I'm kinda nervous I went and had the eval today and they said that I could probably achieve 20/15 in both eyes.
(Currently I'm 20/40 and 20/60-astigmatism in both eyes :()
I have an appointment for the laser on the 29th................So anybody have any info.

I haven't heard any horror stories or anything. I've spent a lot of time reading up on it since I'm considering it too. The biggest things I've picked up is to be sure you go to a reputable/experienced surgeon and expect as much as a year to pass before your eyes have completely healed and achieved the clearest vision.

Just a couple weeks ago I saw a brochure at my Optomitrist's office (first time there in 4 years) advertising the Lasic surgery. One of the surgeons around here apparently has a fancy machine now that will measure the shape of your eye and get results many times more accurate than the typical "A or B" routine. I'm going to wait a few more years at least (only 23 y/o) then probably go for it.

My dad had it done about 8 years ago.... he did within the last three years have to have glasses for reading but that is mostly an age issue.

He has a pair of glasses that corrects his vision for driving even closer to 20/20 and when his eyes are tired he has to wear them.
His vision is a wee bit cloudy in the morning, but clears up within an hour of being up and around. Like his eyes are refocusing, the doctors said to expect it.
He doesn't regret doing it at all!

I can't give many details as I don't have/remember them but my uncle, his daughter and her husband all went up to a doctor in Canada about 2 years ago for the surgery. My uncle is a relentless bargain hunter and found the cheapest price there. Personally, I wouldn't cheap out on a guy shooting my eyes with a freaking laser but that's just me.

Anyway, all three of them reported great sucess with it and none of them wear glasses now.

My younger brother had it quite a while ago (5-8 years ago) and is thrilled with it. He's never had a problem or complaint.

What did they say about the astigmatism? Can that be corrected? I've had 20-20 vision all my life but worn glasses because of astigmatism. I'm now at the point where I need reading glasses but refuse to get them because that's tantamount to admitting I'm getting old! LOL

I spent almost 5k on laser surgery and it did seem like things were fixed at first... but then it all went to hell and I am now wearing contacts, even though my doctor still insists I shouldn't need them. Yeahhhh. Whatever. :p

I'm planning to get it done in the next year or two.

Just make sure you go to a Reputable Place. There are some optometrists who rent out a places and do laser eye surgery for the day to make some extra cash. I would stay away from them and go to a place that focusses exclusively on laser eye surgery.

The good news is they are continually improving it. Its getting cheaper, more reliable and there are less and less side affects.

Well...this is embarassing, but I happened to catch an episode of "The Newlyweds" and I had to watch it because Jess and some girl were getting lasik (sp?) eye surgery done. They showed more or less the entire procedure. They said it didn't hurt at all (granted, they were given a bunch of valium or something before hand) during the procedure but naturally the eyes were extremely light sensitive afterwards.

Now, before seeing this, I didn't realize that (in this case, at least) they like...cut your eye a bit, on the outside , to make a flap of eye tissue...then they do whatever it is that they do, and push the flap back into a closed position.

Actually they slice the cornea and flip it over and do the laser surgery, then flip it back. I watch it when my wife had her eyes done, pretty neat. Anyway she doesn't regret having it done. My daughter just had her eyes done last week and she is already back to 20/20 vision. Both were a little scared but after they said they didn't feel any pain during the surgery. Probably get mine done soon because I'm tired of the glasses.

I went to one of the top places in my area (and state), recommended to me by a local eye doctor. Naturally, I thought, "well, if they can't help me... nobody can". So I went and paid to have it done. Was hooked up to a monitor to check my heart rate and all that good stuff. Anyway, my eyesight seemed "fixed" but after a short period of time, it began to clout. I am not sure why, and have an appointment to see my doctor the first week of December to further discuss this. So, this is an interesting topic to bring up! :)

I suppose just as many people have successfully fixed eyes, but I wasn't part of that lucky group. If I had to do it over again, I would have stuck to contacts because now it hurts to even wear the contacts.
