Last Cycle Question..... Hopefully?

no water changes at all, only added probably 10-12 gallons to replace from evap..... I'm going to do my tests again rt now, i have not fed ammonia yet tonight.

this is fun :silly:

edit: just tested, still the same............ only 5 ppm nitrates

my api test bottles are all 2007 dates

maybe i'll take a bottle of my tank water to the store i trust and have them test it for me....... i just tested again................ same results.

added 12ml ammonia 12 hours ago, my pH is down to 7.8

are the 3 plants i have eating up the nitrates?
Possible, but I doubt it.When you are shaking the nitrate bottle pound it on the counter or on your hand.Really shake it up well.If the crystals in the bottle are not getting mixed up well enough, then it might show inaccurate results.I would say regardless that your tank has cycled.Do at least a 50% water change and check nitrates(pound on the bottom of the bottle to mix it up)and check you PH too.I would check the PH in your tap water as well.Just to see where it is at.This is probably the reason for the high PH in your tank.My tap water is so high, the API test can't even read it,it is a very dark purple out of the tap.

Not a bad idea, but I would watch them test it to make sure they are doing it right.

Unless your tank is HEAVILY planted, you really will not see the nitrates affected at all.The fact that your tank is processing the ammonia without a rise in nitrate is weird, but just because the nitrates are not rising enough for you to measure them,a liquid test kit is the most accurate the average hobbiest has access to,(but not the most accurate way to measure nitrates,)does not mean they are not rising at all.Remember that nirtrates rise the slowest in the nitrogen cycle.

What size tank?

Depending on the exact date in 2007, I wouldn't trust them.

Curious, is this your only tank?

What do you have for ammonia, nitrites and nitrates right now...?
