Will Lava Rock grow coraline algie well? The reason i ask is i have a 2.5 Gal tank that i was going to use for some FW ghost shrimp and a single dwarf puffer. I siloconed a fair amount of black lava rock to the back wall and it looks awsome. But after reading a thread on Pico reefs (which i need to RESEARCH alot more) i was wondering if i could turn the tank into a Pico reef. Just live rock now until i can do some research, i also have two backup SW tanks i can use if things run awfoul. Thanks for the input, jsut not sure if Lava rock can become live rock. :help:

If you are talking about dead lava reef rock, its not too good to put into your tank because it breaks down and releases unwanted and harmful minerals into your tank.

Hmm, well I'm not sure. Honestly its landscaping rock, got it at lowes. Big bag of lava rock, not sure if it would work or not.

I know people use it in freshwater, but minerals are not as big of an issue as in SW. Thoughts?

Lava rock, in general, is not a good choice for a reef aquarium. The issue has to do with the potential leaching of metals from the lava rock.

Thank You!
