does anyone know if lava rock can be used in aquariums or will it screw up the water?

My 90g Mbuna tank is filled with lava rock - lots of nooks and crannies for bacteria and it looks good too!

its fine for the water i use it as bio media its just somefish can get scraped up or tear their fins on it.

Slate and lava rock are the two most widely used rocks in the aquarium. Both are cheap and do not affect water quality. Lava rock can also provide a great home for benefitial bacteria. The only down side is that fish can sometime get hurt on the rogh surface. I let mine get covered with javamoss to prevent this.

I have lots of lava rock too, its great, look neat, mine looks exactly like my bogwood :)
