I ran in there at the last few minutes before closing, so I'm sure it'll still be there in the morning. OMG, it was SO hard not to get it tonight, but I just wasn't sure, especially after reading that Ace's is nibbling on corals. I hadn't seen one in person before and that is the cutest darn fish! Should I go back and get it in the morning? Or will I be wishing I hadn't in the future when I see another goby or blenny that I want?

Lawnmowers are great fish. However, the are relatively easy to find so make sure that the one you ran across is looking in very good health and use a QT tank. Although each store is a bit different, lets just say that some of the major pet chains have a bit of a reputation when it comes to the health of their fish. Parasites such as ich is an example of an often reported issue.

i agree with grins. i have purchased livestock at petco before, and have been disappointed. however, i have also been happy with some purchases i've made (like my serpent starfish, which i've had for almost 2 months now!). so i'm sure it all varies from store to store. i guess bottom line is, that at a locally owned place, the people's reputation/money is on the line, so they do their very best to have good quality stock and keep it in the best condition. a lot of times chains like petco are run by people that just don't care too much, and are just there for the job. this isn't always right, however, and your petco may be totally different than the ones i've been to, and the blenny might be an awesome addition. they are pretty easy to find however, so don't feel like you won't find another one and have to rush back to get it :)

he was really pretty and fat looking, at least 3". I'm SO tempted to go back for him.

i will never and i mean never buy a fish from a petco petsmart or any other large chain, i have bought fish from both of these in my area and 100% of the fish i bought had ich, yes i am not lying all of them had ich, they were only fw fish, but its still the fact everyone of them had ich, and thiswas on 3 separate occasions, granted this was when i first started with my fw aquariums, but nonetheless thats my story, just wanted to share

had a buddy that worked there, and quit whne he said somethin to the manager about sick fish, and the manager told him that hedoesn't get paid to take care of sick fish, he gets paid to sell them, and my buddy proceeded to walk out and start breeding and selling fish out of his basement

I've said this before, but I stopped in my local pet store and as I always do, I put in my complaint about the SW fish. They had a golden headed sleeper goby on its side, its head was a dull color, a poor angel that I couldn't even ID because it was in such bad health, covered in ich, a porcupine puffer covered in ich and 2 sailfin tang. I regularly complain and won't buy a fish from them because I see how horrible the conditions are. I don't think it holds to all PetCo's but I wish that all LPS had people working in all departments that knew about the animals. I said I would quit complaining when they at least stopped getting in animals like dwarf angels, tang, and other fish that aren't tough as nails as most clowns and damsels are. The manager hates me.

i bet he does, the manager at the one here hates me and my buddy, because we get our dogs food there, and every time we go there we give the guy in the fish dept a hard time, and now my buddy isn't allowed there anymore, i'm sure i'll be next if i continue tofight for the health of the fish, even if it is only a $.90 fish

Plus let me clarify.. I have a lot of different corals in my tank, and it is ONLY my green clove polyps that mine nips at. It doesn't even touch my normal pink clove polyps. Since the green ones are so rare and the lawnmower isn't, I am chosing to remove the lawnmower.

I don't want you to be discouraged by my experience. Many others report no problems, and if I didn't have the one coral it nips at it would be perfect in my tank as well.

Now Petco is another story. As Grins said, it varies store to store, but my experience has been from aweful to just ok depending on the store.
