of course this is generated in part by the 'let loose your moral outrage' thread.

It has nothing to do with tails, dogs or fish or cats.

but everything to do with the 'platform' which seems to be growing for political parties.

In the news.."the govt to set high mileage standards fot SUV'S"

are you freakin kidding me??
we do not need the govt to be spending their time what everyone already knows is something that needs to be changed. especially the auto mfg.

the auto mfg already know the impact higher fuel prices have done to their sagging suv sales.
this is no new trend.'
in the 70's when the fule 'shortage' hit..large gas guzzlers started to disappear..smaller more fuel efficient cars hit the market..amazingly no govt intervention was needed to get the auto mfg to 'see the light'
the only real intervention the govt did then was to increase the tarrifs on imported fuel efficient cars..to allow the us auto mfg time to catch up. something theystill need towrok on..

there I feel better now...I vented :D

So...what exactly are you mad about? Or, who are you mad at?

I think anything that promotes more fuel efficeint cars is a good thing, especially when i pay about $8 for a gallon of petrol (gas)

Saab have just released a Biodeiesel carn than runs on beat oil or something and its free to tax and free to park a Biodesiel's emmisions are actually negative as the plants they grow intake more carbon than the car produces!
the car is actually faster than thier standard deisel model as well NO THATS A GREAT IDEA! why are all cars not bio-deisel

Well, there are many reasons why cars are not all Bio-Desiel. The biggest is the fact that oil is still cheaper to refine and sell. Other reasons include the fact that most people can't afford a bio-desiel car, or to put a BD engine in their car. And, you can't just run BD into a regular desiel either. The car companies are going to be a major deciding factor on what type of fuel cars will burn. Basically, whatever they build, and since they are still making profits (even if sales are down) they have a very strong "If it isn't broke, don't fix it," mental attitude about things. Politics too are a huge factor into all of this. Profits drive all aspects of business, so if BD cars and alternative fuel cars don't have a high profit margin. Then they are not given much attention. It is a stupid thing, I know, but that is how the world works. People who are in charge of these things are more interested in $$$ than the little guy.

I think you hit the nailon the head with pricing this saab retails for $50000 it has to be the future though i think some serious r+d investment is required

 the point is:
the govt intervening on this subject is rediculous..the market will determine the need for more fuel efficient cars. the govt is sdtepping in and wasting time on this.

whether it's bio-diesel of fossil fuels..the trend will be to produce more efficient vehicles.
europe , japan etc have already made the steps..bio-diesel, hybrid, even hydrogen fuel cells are all possible..but does the govt tryand dictate this? the govt has already proven numerous times..it is not efficient.
however, the dollar and making a buck is what will drive this. the auto mfg in other countries are making the advances..business will be the driving factor.

the senators and congress people need to step back and get off their high horses..

what set me off is all of the people who are suppose to represent us are sucking up time in the media and acting like they are doing something..LOL :thud:

Well, they are trying to do something because people are whining about it. There really isn't anything the Gov. can do, but people want them to do something. Given they do still over-exaggerate their involvement. They are just trying to do what the people want. It is hard to see that through all the political and media BS. I do agree that the Auto Mfg. guys need to get off thier butts and do something. Otherwise the foriegn Mfg is going to dominate the market.

I guess I could be more surprised by the fact that the general populace is being fed the bs.
the media could announce the obvious..and in part they do.

look at the stories, FGord, GM, Chrysler announce large drop in SUV sales!!
well duh. :duh: .even joe citizen knows why they don't buy the large gas guzzling SUV...
on the next story you see.."insert big auto mfg namehere' announces emphasis on new hybrid/fuel efficient vehicle.

even the ad's on tv for cars push fuel efficient vehicles.
then jumps in big brother..govt announces push to increase fuel efficiencies of SUV.

:duh: it cracks me up that joe citzen :cool2: is buying this crap.

they want the govt to step in?? or does the govt want up to believe they need to step in??

I think the govt is missing the boat..if we want them to step in ..it's more to see why the price of gas went up so quickly and why in such a short time..have we gotten the answers to that yet??

probably in some stupid study or committee..and we'll get the results in 10 years :look:

Meh...something is fishy, that is for sure. Where is Batman when you need him?

we forgot to turn on the bat signal
