My Lfs sells plants and the only plants they have in stock are Java plants. The leaves on these plants are brown and they are not growing very well, so what could be the trouble? The employee said that he did not know why the were doing that. Should I buy them or order some online?

Is it Java sword?? I would not buy plants from store that looks bad.

Jave sword is very tough. Can take a lot of abuse and still live. Can handle low light, but GROWS in high light.

Yes, they are Java Swords, but I should probably order live plants online despite high shipping charges. I think the reason they don't look is because the have no nutrition or they are not obtaining CO2

Have you asked your LFS if they can order plants in for you? Many stores will do this, and it can save you a lot in shipping costs.
Java fern is a tough plant, but if they look that bad I wouldn't purchase them. If you have plants ordered in, they'll be in good shape when they arrive from the grower and you won't have to worry about nursing a sickly plant back to health :)
