Light Question

Can you put compact fluorescent bulbs into an incandescent hood? I thought I read somewhere that you could, but now I can't seem to find any information about it.

you mean the screw-in CFL? as long as the screw fittings fit, then yes.

Yea, walmart and just about every other store with fish supplies sells florescent lights that fit the standard fish hood sizes. It's definitly possible, and definitly worth doing. I had incandescent lights because I bought a cheap hood. Those things spew heat.

Thanks guys. I knew I wasnt' crazy in thinking it was possible. Now I just need to remember to buy the fluorescent when I go shopping next. Those little incandescent bulbs REALLY do put out the heat. The 10g was hitting about 86F with it on so now I turn it on during night and let it cool off in the day to maintain about 80F in the tank.

you should be able to find one. it took me a while, but i finally found one for my Eclipse Hex 5 at walmart. if they fit, it should work; plus you wont get that extra heat that keeps the tank water hotter than you want it

good, then I need some also, I don't even run them in the 10gal anymore (only at feeding)
I have the 55 gal next to it all lit up and it lights up the smaller one too.
(it looks cool like it is a cave or something)

I got a 3 pack of 13 watt GE cf 6500k daylight bulbs at lowes for 8 dollars. so cheap.
