I was planning to upgrade my goldfish from a 20g to 30g tank, til I found a 45g at the same price, stand and all
The only downside? 17w of light in the standard hood?!?
Maybe the gaudy 15w over my 5.5 has me spoiled? LOL
Granted, it's going to have just my 2 goldies in there, and I'd like to float some anacharis etc. I'd have worried more about the lighting up front, except my concern was putting my guys in a home more suiting their need for space and filtration.
At some point in the future I wouldn't mind having some java moss or a few plants on the bottom of the tank, but that's a far-off consideration.
Right now, I was just hoping for some basic info and ideas ...
- Is the 17w standard light enough to keep floating anacharis alive and well?
- I saw General Electric 20w sunlight and 20w plant/aquarium flourescent tubes at Walmart. It's only 3w difference, but the light spectrum may be considerably different than the bulb supplied with AGA hoods or what's generally recommended for tanks. Would either of these be a good short-term alternative, at least for better viewing of the tank, and keeping the anacharis going?
- Several places offer Coralife 65w freshwater fixtures for sale. Those look very appealing ... I don't need huge wattage, unless I found it on eBay for the right price :joke: Seeing as the tank is 36" long, and the bulb currently in the hood is 24" ... should I aim for a 24" or 36" Coralife fixture? Or is it a matter of preference only?
I appreciate all your input and am open to any suggestions.
Thanks in advance!
