i have a 90 gallon tank with a standard all glass cover and single strip light, i would like to up to lighting but don't have a lot of money, what is the best way to go as far as building a light or buying one at a hardware store etc. also, i'd like it to be an addition to the single strip just because it would seem like a waste to have to get rid of that one to fit a new one, so maybe there are some lights that would fit on behind the single strip, idk, i just am tight on money and looking for any help you guys have

thanks

The fallback standard is cheap Hardware store 4 foot double strip shoplights...If you are handy, you can incorporate them in a wooden canopy or recess them in a stand to hide the industrial looking fixture. You can change out the cheap bulbs down the road.

ok, a different approach, is there any way to add a light/fixture to a single srtip in order to make it a double strip?

thanks

errr.... kinda... If you look into doing 1 of two things.

1. over driving the fluorescents - Which can only be done with select ballasts and light combos.

2. retrofit the plastic light strip with power compacts.... Which would probably be easier, though you'd have to vent that plastic light hood to keep them cool.

Personally, I'd order up some power compacts and mount them in a DIY wooden hood.

You could also buy some cheap halogen lights from HD or lowes and mount on walls aboveoe beside the tank.

or just save.........
