I have been all over the internet, and cant find any retrofits for an eclipse 12 gallon. I have completely removed the old lighting fixture because I want to start a mini reef. This will be my first reef tank although I have about a years experience in saltwater. A place named customaquatics.com or something like that used to have a retrofit, but they closed down. Please help!!! I am looking for a power compact addition. The longest point of the tank is about 18 inches long, but has a bar down the middle which supports the internal filter that needs to stay in the tank. As always, price is an issue, I am but a poor college student.

I have plexiglass that I bought from lowes as well as an 80 watt 50/50 dual bulb light coming. I was planning on cutting the plexiglass and putting it over the top and removing the hood and putting the light on top. Any concerns there? heat? melting plexiglass? fires?, also would you trust the new fission mini-skimmer (protein skimmer) for this 12g?

I think the easiest thing to do would be to buy a Coralife 20 inch Aqualight, and also buy the mounting legs with it (they are adjustable). This would allow you to leave the tank open, and would provide you with more gas exchange than putting a piece of plexi on top.

Or, here's a retrofit kit:

I don't think I would set it on top of plexi, though. You'd have to build a canopy, probably.
