I set up my new 20 gallon marine aquarium today. I have all the live rock, sand, and water in the tank. The live rock was previously cycled and doesn't make a huge trip to get to the store. Its relatively local. It came with purple algae and what appears to be tiny white tube organisms on some of it. I can barely see them which means its not going to show up on camera.

I am now currently running the carbon filter and ran the light to test it out. The main question is, Do I turn the light out for the two week cycle time if the rock is previously cured with purple algae? Do I turn it on only some of the time instead of all the time like I've read? I am running a Coral Life 24"

Turn the lights on so the coralline algae will survive and grow. The tank will also need to go through an 'algae cycle' so its best to get that started from the beginning.
The lights should be on anywhere from 8 to 12hrs a day depending on the tank. Since you don't have any corals 8hrs is plenty.
