How do you get rid of lime on the tank glass. I don't fill my 10 gallon to the top because of my Dinosaur eels might jump out (they are very aggressive and try to attack people). A cover doesn't fit on it. I keep the water down about two inches from the top and I have a lime buildup. How can I get rid of it and how can I make a cover for my tanks?

not sure exactly about the lime build up but I do know you can get a screen top that they sell in the LFS for reptile habitats, might eliminate your need to keep the water low.
Try scraping it off with a razor blade? If your water has a high KH you might be able to get away with a rag dampened with vinager.

And for the question. The best thing to get rid of lime is good old elbow grease. Water and vinegar works all right, but heavy build up requires allot of work. Buy a brand new dish scrubber and scrub away. Clean an area and then wipe it down with a damp cloth and let dry. You usually have to do it a couple times to completely remove the lime. There are some lime removing products that are aquarium safe. And they tend to work a little better than water and vinegar. After the lime is gone and you put water back in. Get a double side sponge (coarse end and regular end) and every time you do a water change wipe the course end around the tank then the regular end. That should help keep the lime build up down.
Or, the best way is to buy a RO unit. Ebay sells an excellent unit for around 100 dollars. That will get rid of your lime build up for good.

be careful with those sponges though. A lot of them come with a pre-soap to them that could destroy the tank's bio-filter if you don't know it's there and haven't rinsed enough.
I used to have a lot of problems with the lime build up and still do on occasion but nothing like it used to be.
lol, that's kind of funny. i live in spokane, that one little purple spot in easter washington with hard water, where the rest is soft......hehe. i like having hard water though. good fo fishies and snails, they get plenty of calcium, and its good to drink as well.
