Lionfish

Not hard with a few provisions. Lions are pretty hardy, but you have to give them enough space - a volitans lion will easily reach a foot in length and width with its spines. Dwarf lions take up considerably less space and are a better option if your tank size is limited.

The other important aspect is to provide them with a healthy diet. This usually means putting in the effort to train them to accept frozen or prepared foods. A diet of feeder fish is terrible for lions and usually results in a drastically shortened lifespan.

I definitely agree with Boogiechillin. Lionfish are good fish to keep because they are very hardy, relatively peaceful, and unique in terms of personality. They are also relatively inactive swimmers. As a result, they require less space than other carnivorous fish (e.g. triggers) do. This might be a good news for those who have limited space, but want to keep something unique. The only problem is that it may be very hard to make them accept dead food. But, once you succeed in doing so, everything will go well. Even though their spines are capable of injecting poison into your body, its toxicity level is nothing to fear. So this shouldn't prevent you from having a lionfish. I personally recommend dwarf lionfish because they are less intimidating to deal with than "real" big lionfish. But, if you have a big tank, you can try volitan or radiata lionfish.

I like this fish a lot and may be willing to devote an entire 75 gallon to it, and maybe a clown or something... Definetly thinkin of starting Saltwater though. ;)

Can Lionfish be kept with a clown Triggerfish?
These are my 2 favorite fish. I can just sit and watch them for hours at the local pet shop that carries them.

I am starting to lean towards building a large SW setup next year.
I just like SW fish's coloration so much better than the FW fishes.

I wouldnt recommend it..the trigger would most certainly tear the lionfish to shreds...lions should really be kept on their own...though, I kept mine with moray eels just fine. The larger morays, like the green moray, should not be kept with lions or any other fish for that matter. My smaller eels(dragon moray, and snowflake moray) did fine with my 3 lionfish..no problems. The interesting thing about lionfish is that they will hunt together in packs..herding their prey using their long fins...amazing to watch them in action.

Agreed, a clown trigger would decimate a lionfish. Lions are best kept with passive, larger fish. Certain angelfish, wrasses, butterflyfish, tangs, etc are good choices. Once again, realize that keeping suitably large fish with a lion dictates a pretty large tank!

too much work.
I don't want to be a post***** :D This is a fresh start.
