Little tank makeover today

I did a little cleanup today. The plants were so thick at the top, the light wasn't getting through very well. Cleaned the glass. I found some MTS way up on top of the plants.

It took a while to get my plants going, now I'm going to look for something different soon. The val had to get cut back, it was snaking around everything. cut about eight inches off.

Here's a before and after shot. Sorry, the first one is pretty dark. I forgot to darken the room.

i like the layout in the first picture the best, it has a natural river basin look.

My water level drops quickly, if I scrape the deposits off the top of the tank, will the shavings in the water be safe for the fish?
