Hi guys.

First of all, I wasn't sure where to post this so if the mods need to move it please do so !!!

So I have this "problem" in my shrimp tank and I'd like to know how can I get rid of it......there are these little white bugs in my shrimp tank and they're more each day !!!

In the beginning they were just a few of them but as the time went by they multiplied like crazy and they're just annoying.....

What are they and how can I get rid of them or at least bring the population down....way down !!!!

AFAIK I'm not overfeeding so I don't think that can be the issue....or maybe it is !!!

PS: I also found a Damselfly larvae in the moss !!!!

Thanks a lot guys.

Cheers !!!!

I don't know what they are, but I had them too, or else something very similar. I did several serious (deep) gravel vacs -- maybe 4 or 5 -- over a two week period. PLUS, I cut back dramatically on feedings. I think Ziggy and JM1212 are right about their not being a big deal, but if you're like me they just creep you out. Makes me itch all over; also makes me feel like I'm a lousy fish mommy. After I did the gravel vacs and decreased the feedings, my bugs disappeared. Good luck to you.

Yeh the advice I have always got when I had any bugs in the tank, was more frequent WC, and increase filtration and reduce feeding, even going without on alternate days. This has worked for hydra, I also bought 2 australian rainbow fish and a paradise fish for different tanks cos they eat them.Gouramis do too, cos the tank with gouramis has never had any bugs. Some people also suggested fenbendazole solution in a syringe and squirted down the glass where the hydra are, dont know if the same treatment applies for lice.

I used to have a BUNCH of those all around my 120. I did a few extra water changes, fed the fish a little less and they dissapeared. I've had just about any strange creature you could have in my 120 lol

I believe these are commonly called seed shrimp or ostracods. Not harmful and like someone said, your fish will eat them (just as they will eat scuds). Upping the hygiene in your tank will get rid of them, but if you don't mind your tank being "natural" then I say, leave them be. I like aquariums to be more like ponds than fish tanks, so I encourage any kind of critter or non-invasive (even some invasive kinds) algae that likes to take residence.
