Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone ever used live Black Worms or any other live foods for that matter to feed their fish?

I purchased some black worms online from aquaticfoods.com and tried them for the 1st time in my tank. They arrived on time and were very much alive after I rinsed them off really well.

It's a 150 gallon light to moderately planted tank with small community fish in it. The tank has been set up for about 5 months now but has only been planted for about the last 2 months. I got them mainly for my school of albino cory cats that I have, but all of the fish seemed to go crazy over them especially my dwarf gourami (he was fun to watch hunt them down :evil_lol:). Even the ghost shrimp would try to catch them but they couldn't hang onto them .I only plan on feeding them the worms once or twice a week so as to not get too much protein in their diet.

Anway I just thought I would share my story and was curious if anyone else had success using them.

Here is a few pics of the tank. I'm not very good at taking pictures yet, and I'm very new at plants so I still have a lot of work ahead of me :).

I have yet to feed live foods but have frozen brine shrimp, which most of my fish love. I only use "natural" foods as an occasional treat, maybe 2 or 3 times a week.

BTW, looks like you're on the way to a beautiful tank!

Awesome tank you have! I don't use live blackworms. When I first started with discus there was so much being said about taking chances making the discus sick, etc., that it scared me too much. I do culture my own live white worms and have microworms as well. Fish L-O-V-E live worms, no doubt about it. They go crazy over the white worms and after the initial cost to buy a starter culture, you've got an endless supply forever if you want. Live worms are super conditioning food for your potential breeders!

Thanks for the kind words. :) Zzy, I only feed my fish live or frozen twice a week as well, the rest of the time it's flake except for when I give my BN veggies.

I've been feeding live black worms for years. They are the only thing my eels eat. Just some advice..when they go bad they are foul!!! I keep my refrigerated and change out the water every couple of days. If I do that, they keep for some time but, if I leave them out they go bad within a day.

I used to feed blackworms, but less so recently. They're certainly something all my fish agree on - even the picky feeders, but leech infestations aren't much fun.

:iagree: Leeches aren't fun, but I usually pick them out ahead of time. I've never had an infestation though. Maybe my fish find them to be tasty snacks?

Well, I don't think they'd be much of a problem with fish, but they can be a lot of trouble if you're raising inverts. I pick them out too (which isn't fun either) - my last souffle cup had some 15+ leeches!
