Hi all this is my first post,
This is my first marine tank so i'm just experimenting at the mo, i bought live rock from my local fish shop the guy there said put the rock in after a week which i did, a week later there is some sort of grass growing on the rock and there is a really bright green blob on the rock. Is this normal?

hi there,
just a few questions to make things clear.....
was the live rock fully cured?
did you leave it out of water for a week?
is the green blob like a green pearl or clear/shiny garden pea?

the green grass is totally normal & OK its just hair algae no need to worry it will go most likely when you put hermits in your tank.....

the rock was cured and the green stuff is slimey and really dark green, i put the rock in the same day i bought it which was a week after i set the tank up!

another "?" would be do you turn the lights on the tank? There isnt a need to since you are in your cycling phase (assuming that your tank has no fish or coral in it) also the tank isnt somewhere that direct sunlight is hitting it?

As above, but also have plenty of water movment in there making sure flow is good around the live rock hitting as many of the surfaces as possible.
This will help to keep the algae form forming in dense patches.
