Hello.......My brother took apart his saltwater tank and he has live rock that he is trying to get rid of. Is it safe to place in my Central American cichlid tank as long as it is roperly cleaned? Will it have any adverse effects on my water chemistry?

I muight after i soaked it in freshwater for like 4 weeks and regulary change the water. I would also boil it. I dont know if it will effect the water chemistry, but some body else will.

IMO i would just buy new rock.

Take it to a pet store that deals with reef tanks and get the credit for it. The lifeforms on and in that rock are still there, unless you have already dumped the tank and dried out the rock. Live rock usually will run around $ 5 a pound and up in some places.
I did that when I moved and got myself a used 75 gallon plexiglass tank, filter and PC lights for exchange. Not a bad deal, just trying to figure what to do with that tank now. :)
hmm.. maybe gold fish..
