Hey guys, new here, have had my tank set up for about a year now (30gal), i have had some irridescent sharks since they were about 1/2" long, they are now about 5 or 6 inches...which i'm assuming is the max they will get in a 30. Tonight i just bought a Blue lobster though and i searched for some info and a lot of you guys are saying they will eat community fish, well my sharks are kinda like that and they are peacfull, but the lobster is only 3" long right now, and his claws are maybe 1/4" big, question is, will the lobster be able to eat my sharks that are already 5" long? Thanks for any info.

P.S this aqua forum is cool, i'm a car guy and i'm always on jeep and camaro forums, but i never thought about forums for fish tanks. Thanks again for any info.

Your lobster knows he'd loose a claw if he even tried. To him them fish are HUGE & they'll react with the quickness if a claw even touched one of them. The fish also know to stay away from that wierd thing in the corner.

At least that's the behavior that was once in my tank.

When the crayfish sheds (molts) he will be very vulnerable. Be sure he has driftwood to hide under. If a shark finds him at this stage they can easily dismember him. I've kept crayfish before with similar sized fish without harming the fish, but have lost a crayfish as described. Now I have a native tank where the crayfish is the focus and there are expendable small fish to add interest. He hasn't caught any yet, but they are capable of catching healthy fish.

ok, so the tides have turned lol...i didnt realize he will molt his whole skeleton like that, is this something i'm going to be able to see? How long will he be w/out a protective skeleton? As for driftwood, i dont have anything, but i put one of those rock caves towards the back, he's already been sitting inside of it, i havent seen the fish swim through it once yet. Would this be adequate or should i still look for driftwood? Thanks for the info all.

Growth can be slowed and stunted by conditions, but not totally stopped. Our irridescent shark is about 28" and still growing....

He was a "sympathy purchase"....about 12", skinny, and all head and eyeballs...we've had him for about 2 years now in the 3240g, and he's filled out quite nicely. He's quite a character, but a bit of a dope....;)

Thats crazy, since i'm new to this i'm picturing a tank the size of my Pool in the backyard, how do you fit that many gallons in a house....any pics? or is it really an outdoor tank?

LOL.....are you kidding?? I was scraping the frost off my windshield yesterday...in an outdoor tank, we would soon have fish-cicles....
Tank is in the basement in our family room.

There are some pics posted in General Freshwater, in the picture thread.
