I had two true SAE until recently when one (my fav, he used to play when I would do a WC) decided to jump out of the tank one night. Now the other one is hiding alot and when he sees me coming when he is out, he runs right back under a log or behind some plants. Reminds me of my pleco. Neither of the SAE were like this before the other died. The one I still have wasn't as outgoing, but not a scardy cat either. I've looked around and haven't seen any info on this. Any one have any experience with this? Any advise?

SAEs are best in groups like many fish. 4+ is a good group IMO.

So I need to find him/her a buddy or two and he should be alright? I had this problem with some corys and they never recovered. The new ones are doing great, but the lonely hidey one ended up dying.

I have a single SAE in my community tank and it's doing great.

Tropical Tank has this to say about SAEs:

They can be slightly territorial with their own species, so they are probably best kept either singly, or as a group of 5-6 or more in larger tanks.

Mine seems so skittish now that I think I will try to find another one and see how that goes.
