hi all! I'm new to these forums, and I come to you with a problem. See, I have a small 2.5 gallon Mini Bow aquarium with a betta fish in it. Unfortunately, the hood light has completely shorted out. I think some condensation got inside the unit. I suppose I could always replace it with the exact same thing, but I'm reluctant to do so as it might happen again.

So what I have done is get a sheet of acrylic, cut it into the shape of the top of the aquarium with holes for feeding and the filter and to let air in. Ideally, what I would like is some kind of clip on lamp that I can attach to the side and have to shine down through the plastic. I've seen some jebo products on eBay that are along the lines of what I want, but I read some very scathing reviews of jebo products on these forums. Does anybody know of any good products that would fit what I'm looking for?

This is kind of like what I want, although I'm not sure that it is meant to fit onto any aquarium.

im looking for something just like that!! im setting up a 2.5 gallon tank and need a light just like that to go under the canopy im making outta wood

I know, it would be ideal if it worked. But it might just be for that one kind of aquarium and might not fit onto the side of a mini bow. Thus I'm looking for other options. I'm not having a lot of luck, either. Coralife makes a small Aqualight, but it's way too big to fit onto the top of my tank with its filter. I was eyeing the rio mini sun LED light for a while, but then I read a number of bad reviews that said that it just didn't check enough light. Seriously, finding a light shouldn't be this hard! But I suppose tiny aquariums are far from the norm.

i agreeeee i haven't found anything yet

I thought I looked through their inventory, but I'll take another look. I've seen some clip on LEDs, but they simply aren't bright enough. I might end up just getting a desk lamp with a goose neck and bending it over. It won't get wet, since I made a cover.

Hmmm. That does look nice. A little pricey, but I'm cheap. I'm also a little worried about the Java fern I have in the tank and LEDs don't necessarily emit the right spectrum for plants. But the tank might get enough indirect light to sustain them.

look into refugium lights. they are mini cps you can get 9 and 18 watters i think, and since your using the plexy glass, all you have to do is drill a hole and screw it in.
