Biotodoma cupido to be exact. I was told by a manager at my LFS about these guys. What I've found for pictures doesn't seem to be to appealing as my centerpiece fish in a 55G SA set up. However, she said that they do get some really great coloration around breeding time. I just haven't been able to find anything that proves that. Does anyone have any good information/pictures on these guys? Google has given me a bit of info, but failed me for the most part on pics.

Thanks

They are very pretty fish, and actually have a nice iridiscent rainbow of color on the sides (from just behind the pectoral fin to just in front of the caudal peduncle) even outside of breeding once acclimated. They're not flashy like the Rift Valley cichlids or some of the cichlasomines, much more subdued. They are a fish I plan on keeping again. The only picture I've ever seen that actually compares to living color is in either Volume 2 or 3 of the Baensch Aquarium Atlas.

I had four in a heavily planted 75 gallon with 4 or 5 angels and a school of mid-swimming tetras. Initially I had a few corys in there as well, but they would harass the corys. They pretty much kept to the bottom, never bugged the plants, tetras or angelfish. Water was soft and slightly acidic, I don't recall the exact water parameters I kept them at now.

If you're looking for a testimonial on color, I'll vouch for them.
