Hey guys. I am just about done cycling a 20G tank and am about ready to start stocking it. i am going for a planted community tank. The only problem is, im having trouble picking the fish that i want to put in there. I want small, ative, schooling fish. My perfect choice would be something like young clown loaches, too bad they get big though! Anyways, let me know if any of you guys know any fun little fish like this. thanks

hey blade, its pretty coincedental-- I'm doing the exact same thing, and having the exact same problem! I used to have discus in my 38G for a long long time, and thinking about it again, but i believe i can only have 2 and I dont really want to do that..thinking about the community tank thing too with maybe mollies or swordtails, but they have babies like crazy...I def want to get some black neons i saw the other day.

My first thoughts would be: Mollies, Tiger Barbs, or Rosy Barbs, and can add in a few cories. All pretty active and fun to look at.

i currently have 4 swordtails and 4 tiger barbs in a 35g..

they seem to be doing well as of now.. no chasing and fighting so far :D

I currently have a 29g set up as a "planted" tetra tank. I learned quickly that in a small tank tetras don't school well. At least not while other tetras are present, I have a mix of glowlights, neons, black phantoms, and a Hyphessobrycon species that was sold as a "candy cane" tetra. If a true school is your goal choose one species as the focus. A few peaceful non schooling fish could be added if you need more variety. Dwarf gourami hybrids add color, ottos will keep the plants clean, my pygmy cories are still often found in their little shoal. Also don't forget that there are many other loaches beside the clowns and they don't get nearly as large, but their colors are more subtle.

Try some long finned Zebra Danios. Extremely active, colorfull, and fun to watch as they zip around in pursuit of nothing important!

if you like clown loaches, maybe you should get a bunch of kuhli loaches. i think theyre just as fun, if not more fun, than clown loaches. (i'm probably gonna get mine a friend or two soon)

another extremley active fish, as Penfan said, are zebra danios. they are very playful and active. (and cheap! like 3 for a dollar) if youmhave an airstone, in many cases theyll go to the bottom of the airstone and then swimj through it, getting shot up to the top from the bubbles. theey are hyperactive fish

I would go with the Zebra Danios, Some people dont like them because they are not colorful but I love them. They are really playful and fun to watch.
