Hey all. I have lost 3 Neon Tetras in a week. The first one just vanished. The second one, I found part of his tail and spine on the bottom. That was all that was left. So I figured my Dwarf Gourami had been snacking on them at night. I removed him and put him by himself in a little 6g Eclipse QT. This morning, I found another stuck to the filter intake. So gourami probably isnt the killer after all. After close inspection of all my fish, I found only one possible problem. One of my Glowlight Tetras has two white patches on him. It doesnt "look" like ICH, but just to be safe I started salt/temp treatment on Monday night. Its been near 2 days of 82F and 2tsp per gallon salt treatment and the white patches are still on that one Glowlight.

He appears to be the only one effected at the moment. The best way to describe the patches....They look like the skin/scales on the tetra itself was bleached. Like the skin/scale color is simply faded out to white. Doesnt appear to be an external parasite at all. Certainly doesnt look like any ICH ive ever seen. I have been looking at pictures on the net but I cannot find anything that looks like it. Anyone have an idea what this might be? The skin effected is on both sides of the fish in the same spot, just behind the pectoral fins. Tested my water a few minutes ago and its perfect.

55g Community Long (Under Salt Treatment)

0ppm Ammonia
0ppm Nitrite
10-15ppm Nitrate
7.2 PH
120 KH
Temp: 82.1F

Stock:
8 Glowlight Tetra
8 Neon Tetra
4 Celebes Rainbows
4 Peppered Corydoras
4 Oto's

Filtration:
2x Emperor 400s HOBs (duel-biowheel jobbies)

Lighting: Odyssea 48" 240w CL (using only 1/2 bulbs, 12 hours daylight, 12 hours Lunar)

Any help would be appreciated. All the other fish appear healthy and colorful, eating well. None are showing any aggressive behavior. Though the tetras are kinda hanging on the bottom a lot, but I feel it may be due to the water temp. being increased? Cooler on the bottom since heat rises? Usually keep my tank about 78F so its not THAT much warmer. I am worried though, I dont want to lose anymore of my fish friends. Thanks in advance.

Doesnt appear to be NTD. The only fish showing the spots is otherwise perfect. His orange stripe is bright, as is the others. No arching of the back. Hes eating also. I think they are still not used to the lighting change. Going from only 30w total to 160w is probably a bit of a shock for them.

No, I dont mean to say it killed them, only that the change in lighting could be the reason they are hanging on the bottom more then they did before. I still dont know what killed them. No more have died in the last 24 hours though...

OMG I think one of my neons may have this disease!! It shows mild periodic signs of stress (occasionally not schooling, and hovering near top, eating ok though) and for some time now, the area near it's tail has been white instead of red on both sides of the body... I thought it was a secondary infection or fungus after a mild case of ick but it has not gone away even with treatment. It does not seem to be getting worse but I am going to remove the fish as soon as I get home!!

Definitely QT him, Fish Gal. If he dies -- and he may or may not show curvature of the spine. Some do and some don't, but by that time they are usually pretty much dead -- keep an eye on the other tetras. If any of them start showing the same symptoms remove them immediately.

I just got home and immediately took him out of the tank. Upon examination (from above) he was showing curvature. I euthanized :( Spent a good 5 mins watching the others, they all look fine - good color and very active - for now at least. Fingers crossed that it didn't spread. Will do a tank clean asap.

Ack. If any of the other neons start showing, I would remove them all and either euthanize or QT permanently. It will cross to your other tetras.
