This is the second or third one in the past few months. Got them all at the same time maybe 5-6 months ago, they were still pretty small. Every 5-6 weeks, one more just ends up dead on the bottom, I have no idea why.

Params:
pH 7.2
Am 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0 (lightly planted)
temp 80

Tankmates - tiger barbs, flying fox, 6 black neons and 6 cories, all in a 55gal with 2 canisters. They don't show any signs of stress before dying, and don't show signs of abuse after dying. This is a mystery to me. Yesterday after my water change I noticed my cories had lost most of their barbels, so I started treating with melafix to see if that would help. Other than that, no new additions for about a month. I just have plain black colored epoxied gravel, average stuff you find in a fish store, nothing overly sharp or rough. Confused.

I lost my marble angel the other day, he came down with fin rot overnight.

It was very sad.

I am now treating the water with Multicure, which is an all in one treatment for fin rot, white spot etc etc.

I am praying my other angel doesnt get it either.

I have heard they are hard fish to keep. I have a friend who's angels die everytime she puts new ones in. She cant keep one alive.

I find it very strange that your nitrates are at 0, you should have some reading of nitrates if the tank is cycled. How many Tiger Barbs do you have? They tend to nip fin's if there is only 1 or 2 of them.

You shouldnt have tiger barbs with anything with long fins they tend to be nippy and can kill the fish.
Tiger barbs can be kept with long finned fish but you must keep them in a group of 5 or 6 so their attention to themselves.

As stated in my original post, the tank is lightly planted with fast-growing plants. This keeps the nitrate level at or near zero.

I know everyone is going to blame the tiger barbs, but I don't think they are at fault in this case. The tigers by and large ignore all the other fish in the tank. I know this could change at any moment, and when I rearrange some tanks in the spring they will be leaving this tank. However, whenver I've lost an angel in this tank, their fins and scales her been in perfect shape, with no signs of nipping or biting. I feel it would be difficult for a tiger barb to stress an angel to death by chasing it without actually ever making contact, they just don't possess that kind of intent. Still a mystery to me.

Oh yeah, there are 5 tigers in the tank, all 2" or less.

I seem to have a problem with Nitrates at Zero. I have a 90 Gal. Community tank that has a few plants and about 20 fish - i do water changes and cleanings every two weeks (about 25%-30%) and at the water change the Nitrates have risen to almost unacceptable levels.

How often do you do water changes?

Water changes are done 50% per week. Guys, a zero nitrate level is not that uncommon in planted tanks. In my heavily planted 10gal I have to ADD nitrates 3x a week to keep the plants growing.

things that make you go hmmmm

could be a number of things..

stress, age, water to name a few.

are the angels eating fine?? normally they are very agressive feeders.

bacterial infections, parasites come to mind.

they could suffer from internal bacterial..but they usually show signs of stress..hiding, clamped fins, lack of display..etc.

could be something you can't see in the water..I know angels will slowly secumb to high Fe in the water.

but you may see some red sediment in the filter floss.

hard to say..you could just have a batch that may have a genetic disorder.
