Hey,

Was wondering if people could help discern why my fish died. I had an Edwardii that I just euthanized. Last night he wasn't eating and had been swimming rather tediously, I didn't know what to do for him since all stores were closed and I had no meds available. I also didn't know what his problem actually was. He wasn't bloated and so I didn't think it was Malawi bloat. This morning he was MIA and after moving some rocks he floated to the top and was very bloated (eyes were also popping out). Although he was still twitching he was pretty much gone. Upon further inspection I realized there was some blood seeping from under the scales. . . There wasn't much it was barely noticable, but it made me think maybe there was a parasite. . .

So my actual question is:
"Was this bloat or a parasite?"

the plot thickens. . .

I have another sick fish that has developed mouth rot I think. . . This sucks!!! The new patient also has these abrasions right in front of his dorsal fin and about 1/3rd of the way down his side, on both sides. . .

help!!

Dan

Massive water changes are always rcommended, when this sort of thing happens. At least 40% now and another %40 in two days. Just as a preventative precaution. :)

You do need to find out what is causing the illness. The water changes buys you time.

The irony is. . .

It seems to have started with a water change. Everything was fine, the tank had been running stable for about a month and a half. I did a routine water change and that is when the first fish started acting funny. That was the Edwardii. This morning I found a bumblebee dead. Although I think he actually died before the Edwardii and I just found him this morning.

I went to the fish store last night and they recomended Melafix to start out with since it wouldn't kill my bio-filter. I still have the other fish with the cotton mouth, and his wounds seem to have gotten better since I added the Melafix. There are two other fish that seem sick now too. Both seem weak and are isolating themselves. It seems things have reached epidemic proportions though.
The other lame factor in all this is that I HAVE to go away this week. My hands just feel tied. . .
