When you clean your tank, make sure you gravel vac this substrate well... I mean seriously drill into it. I used to have substrate with this sized grains and poop + other remains get trapped easily in there. Some areas are tricky to place my gravel vac so I only did it once every few weeks and yuck, really cloudy brown water get sucked up through the vac... I eventually changed to much finer grain pool filter sand. This tank did have a heavy bio-load though with bristlenose plecos being the worst ones. Liverbearers were no slouch either.
