i'M SO ANGRY!!!!!!! I donated back to my local LFS (after getting the OK from the manager) a beautiful red platy--very healthy and very much a bully. I think he terrorized to death my other two smaller platies. When I returned to the LFS a few days later, I asked about my platy and they advised that they were keeping him in the "back tank." I thought it was temporary -- to make sure he was ok, before putting him in the main tanks for sale. I was told he could not be re-sold or put in the main tanks as they were all part of one system and if had a disease, then all the fish'd get it. I know that's a crock, or else that would happen routinely if ever one of their fish did get ill. And since I often see dead fish in their tanks, well? I couldn't bring him back home, so I said I'd return another day to get him and take him to another store. Manager claimed employees often took fish home that were returned and they would never kill him. I don't know what to believe. Any input would be appreciated. I feel pretty crappy right now.

Someone who worked at a lfs once told me African Butterfly Fish were peaceful and would get along with guppies just fine.

Basically, they're all full of ca-ca.

fisk kept in back tanks are in quarentine, then employess get first dibs on them when they clear QT

Thats why id one tanks gets ick, its a sure bet that all the other tanks hooked up to them also do :joe:

Well, I hate to say it, but fish stores can't be in the business of taking care of folk's fish they don't want anymore....I don't own a fish store or even know anyone personally who does or even works in one.....I just think it's a bit much to expect them to treat any fish you bring back to them, any different than they treat the others.....

However.... I think they should have told you that when you brought him back there..and given you the opportunity to take him elsewhere if they had no intention of doing what you wanted them to do with it.

I agree with EMG... if they aren't going to take care of it... they should have told you up front.

It doesn't sound like they told you he won't ever be resold. Sounds like he's in QT. Which is more than understandable.

it just turn to chopped up new food for the other fishes
dont give ur fish away
just buy another tank

Sorry to hear you are upset. I guess next time ask more questions as to waht happens with fish that are returned. If this was as nice a fish as you say, I'll bet he's having a nice life in some LFS employee's personal tank. That's not really a bad thing for the fish is it? Why be upset because he didn't show up in a tank for sale?

the place by us that has fish exchange has a big sign up that says all fish that are turned in are in QT for 2 weeks and then put up for adoption, not sale, It gives the reason that you turned it in, I got some nice pleco's because people diddnt like how they looked
