I have captive breed (in my tanks none the less) Macrobrachium dayanum a.k.a Red Claw Shrimp for sale. PM me if you're interested.
I'm selling them in groups of six juveniles for $15.00.
The shrimp currently vary in size from 1/2 inch to 1 inch. They grow slower than most dwarf species, but they also live much longer (3+ years). This brood is over four months old.
Shipping, anywhere in the US (Lower 48 states), is $8.00 via USPS Priority Mail. All shipments will go out on Monday. If you live in Hawaii, it is extremely difficult to ship invertebrates, you have to purchase a license in import, and most (if not all) shrimp are banned.
Size & Environment
These are fascinating shrimp. They are much larger than most freshwater shrimp, adults get to be 3.5 inches long from tip of the rostrum to the tip of the tail. The claws extend much farther. Tank requirements; 1 trio of adults (1 male 2 females) per 10g. Water should be soft to medium hard alkaline water. Temps of mid to upper 70'sF to lower 80'sF are all acceptable.
Behavior & Mating
I've kept these shrimp with RCS, Amano, and Ghost shrimp as well as Guppies and Mollies without loosing any due to the macros hunting and killing. As far as Macro shrimp go, these are very docile. They do have territorial tendencies (male to male of the same species) and have interesting mating rituals. The alpha male will extend his claws out and dance the female(s) around his area while scaring off any other males. They will easily reproduce in freshwater and the young hatch as miniature shrimp (no larval stages).
Feeding
They are omnivorous and will eat all types of fish food. They also eat hair algae that smaller shrimp are unable to eat.
Let me know if you have any questions.
