Mad Kuhli!

Hey guys, I have a few Kuhli Loaches and one of them has begun to pace the glass frantically, right on the bottom, as fast as I've ever seen a kuhli swim. It goes on sometimes for over an hour. Then it hangs out for maybe ten minutes, winding its way through the vegetation and rooting out worms. Then it begins this awful pacing. It plows into other fish and steamrolls right over them so much that the blue ram gets ticked off and starts to really nip at him. The kuhli has torn up some plants and is really annoying to watch - kind of messes up my aquarium gazing meditation.

Oh, and sometimes another loach will swim into the crazy one's path and he'll settle down and nestle with it for a minute or two and then its time to pace like mad again.

His (hers?) gills looked maybe a tad reddish and since there'd been an infestation of gill flukes or some other gill parasite, I thought maybe he'd caught them again so I dosed with Life Bearer (removed shrimp first!). I'm hoping this may work.

Previously, the the mad loach hung out under the driftwood with his buddies and came out at times all through the day and night to snuffle around and root out worms. Now he never goes under the wood, even in daytime.

Help! this mad loach is driving ME mad! Not one other fish in my tank paces for more than a minute or two. I'm worried about the little guy.

One of mine used to do this right when the tank lights went off. It would swim in circles on the glass for a hour or more. It eventual just stopped and now doesnt go nuts anymore. I'd just give it some time.

I'll try and be patient with it. Here's a video of it doing its thing but not at its usual pace.

I've just been concerned something is driving it to that behavior like a parasite or something.

Yeah, I've had a few of mine do that too. I've never seen it last more than a day- and as far as I know there wasn't anything wrong with them.

ETA: Here, I found a video of mine: http://s116.photobucket.com/albums/o27/clb2196pix/Aquarium/?action=view&current=DSCN2156.flv. Nothing wrong with him, as far as I know. At the time, I only had 2, and when I switched tanks about a month later, they were both still alive and healthy.

hey! It finally calmed down after like two weeks of this nutty behavior.

I wonder if they do anything like that in the wild?

My loaches do that sometimes. Its just a loach thing. I read that it has something to do with the weather and way back when sailors would keep them on their ships and when the loaches were acting crazy then a storm was coming.
