This past weekend, I moved the contents of my 38gal into a new 65h. I moved my Aponogetons crispus from my old 65h to the new one, and moved the Madagascar lace to replace them. When I uprooted the lace I noticed 2 clusters of stems. 1 at each end of bulb. My question is-can i cut the bulb in half to get two plants without killing it?

I don't know if I'd try it with a bulb, maybe a tuber like lilies. My understanding from gardening is that bulbs have a complete plant embryo inside but tubers just need a few leaves & roots, tubers & rhizomes branch more easily. Most bulbs split into separate little bulbils, I'd wait to see if yours split rather than risk it.

I wouldn't risk it with a bulb. My Lilies (N. stellata) sometimes have 2 or 3 plants growing out of one bulb. If the plant has roots (not growing from the bulb. but from the plant itself), it can be dettached from the bulb to grow on its own. Does your lace plant have roots coming from the plant or are the roots just coming out the bottom of the bulb? If the roots are coming out of the bulb, I would just leave it alone.

The roots come out of the bulb. Thank you for info. I'll leave it the way it is and p/u another to fill in bare spot from moving 3 crispus and replacing with 1 lace.

In timethe plant will"walk" off of the bulb rooting itself away from it and begin to make it's own new bulb when it does this just take out the old one and let it go through it's resting period then replant it it'll grow another plant
