I've tried ML a few times over the years. Twice I remember the bulb spouted several leaves but, as I've often read, it got unsightly algae. I either let it die or threw it out.
Once I was able to keep 1 alive for a year or so, & pretty healthy looking until it went dormant I guess. I kept the bulb in an unheated tank but it never "woke up" again. When I finally remembered to check, the bulb was totally hollow. I may have had different water or lights & possibly otos the last most successful time. Maybe just a larger bulb with more "embryo" leaves inside.
Other aponogetons are not as fussy or at least don't get as algeified as ML They tended to last a year or 2 before dying out. Those are the kinds sold in Walmart, Petco etc "aquarium bulb" packs or 4 or 5; sometimes those include nymphea lily bulbs too. They're not super expensive & fun to try as a temporary plant. Most can grow fairly tall, lilies tend to have smoother bulbs & are shorter...until they shoot long leaves to the tank surface. Lilies also tend to have red or "tiger" mottling, pretty! You can trim the long lily leaves to keep them shorter or they'll cover the tank surface once they know where that is, lol
If you decide to check them out, look for firm different sized & maybe textured bulbs. It would probably help to put a root tab fertilizer near each 1, I don't recall if I did that. leaves are fairly fragile, thin & easy to tear. Cooler water when they go dormant is supposed to help if that works for you fish but it didn't for me.
Meh, I'd call lace plants "easy" only in the shorter term.
