Roadside Picnic – Read the short story here.

The aliens came in the Night. Some people saw them but became ill and quickly perished; others heard them and still bear the scars, both physical and mental. Others, the Survivors, only know what they have pieced together from the fables of the deranged and the evidence left behind in the Zones. A Zone is recognized by the United Nations as a region where an alien vessel landed. It may seem at first glance to be an old shipping yard, a barren park, or a run down neighborhood, but it hides many deadly secrets. The strange radiation of the alien spacecraft transformed the plants, insects, and animals, even people, which were in close proximity. The Zone is a deadly place of quarantine, no one but UN authorized Scientists are allowed to enter the Zone. Trespassers are shot on sight by elite Military operatives. In the new Frontier towns surrounding a Zone, a black market has formed, based on the trade of alien technology recovered from the Zone. Smugglers are called Stalkers, and they take their job seriously. The town of ACville is a Class I Zone. You find yourself stuck here, unable to afford the cost of relocating, and the town is dying in poverty and disease.

You are a Military Operative. You have orders to find and kill all Stalkers before they release unknown horrors on the world. You may communicate with your squad privately.

You are a Civilian Scientist. You are here to research the unusual properties of items recovered from the Zone. The Military requires you to assemble once a Day at Dusk and report on who you believe is a Stalker.

You are a Stalker. You embrace the new technology and the dangers associated with it that have been left behind by the alien visitors. You have access to a limited assortment of Alien Technology that will be used at random intervals. Since the Stalkers are a very closely connected group they may communicate privately. Your group may choose to kill one person per Night after Day 1.

Stalkers are the equivalent of Mafia.
Military are communicating Innocents.
Civilian Scientists are Innocents that may NOT talk outside the game thread.

I (like a dweeb) left my pretyped intro at work with the game rules. But this plays like a normal Mafia Game.

You must vote each Day to lynch a suspected Stalker. You do so by typing IN BOLD, I vote to toss XXXXXX into the Zone.

If you do not vote, you will be thrown into the Zone and you WILL die.

You may not vote for yourself. You may not vote No One.

To change a vote say you retract your vote IN BOLD and revote.

There are special alien devices that will come in to play. Watch for my posts on those during the game.

Game Day 1 will end at 8PM EST on Monday.

GAME ON!!!

It is not too late to join! PM me to be added to this game up until 8PM EST Saturday.

You are all suspect!

I hate living outside the zone thinks Ice, darn mosquitoes are big as buses. We were warned time and time again about Global warming but never were told about the alien invaders that were visiting our planet. The government had a crashed saucer down in Roswell, you'd think in 50 years they'd have found something to counter this problem that has befallen us.

Knowing our government though they have taken every precaution to protect themselves and our just letting us, the unimportant people, die at alarming rates. Even the water has a god awful taste, so what do they do for us? Bottled water at 50$ a gallon! I need to figure out a way to purify our water I think to myself, even if it costs 25$ a gallon thats half the price and might help this town survive until we can figure a way to either outlast the radiation or harness its power to better our lives.

Judge secretly wishes she knew exactly what was inside the forbidden zones. She sighs in disbelief, that this has happened, to her beloved Acville. What happened to all of those dear people she called "friends"?.
She finds herself wandering paste MeeMee's old pastry shop, saddened by the fact, that so many that have passed through, yet are gone now. She heads back to her tiny dusty yellow house, and notices, that the ever persistent smell, that permeates the air, seems to be getting stronger.

Another day, another year, ..how much longer must we suffer?..

Glad to be posting in the game again and not just sitting on the sidelines. This first day is gonna be extra long though. It should give people plenty of time to post as well as vote, so no excuses there and also no real power roles to hide behind. Hopefully there'll be more posts to actually scrutinize soon.

Let's get this game going!

News travels slow in the dying town of ACville. People are afraid of one another and the Stalker trade syndicate is in control of the news anyways. Recent stirrings indicate that among the staff of the nearby research facility there is a Doctor that can cure the effects of some of the alien artifacts. Who knows if its true.

Old man Sandle sits on the roof of his VW Microbus parked at the edge of town and watches the aurora that plays over the Zone in the growing twilight. What goes on in that place? The laws of physics seem to bend in there.

It's Christmas at ground zero
There's music in the air
The sleigh bells are ringing and the carolers are singing
While the air raid sirens blare

It's Christmas at ground zero
The button has been pressed
The radio just let us know
That this is not a test

Everywhere the atom bombs are dropping
It's the end of all humanity
No more time for last-minute shopping
It's time to face your final destiny

It's Christmas at ground zero
There's panic in the crowd
We can dodge debris while we trim the tree
Underneath the mushroom cloud

You might hear some reindeer on your rooftop
Or Jack Frost on your windowsill
But if someone's climbing down your chimney
You better load your gun and shoot to kill

It's Christmas at ground zero
And if the radiation level's okay
I'll go out with you and see all the new
Mutations on New Year's Day

It's Christmas at ground zero
Just seconds left to go
I'll duck and cover with my Yuletide lover
Underneath the mistletoe

It's Christmas at ground zero
Now the missiles are on their way
What a crazy fluke, we're gonna get nuked
On this jolly holiday

What a crazy fluke, we're gonna get nuked
On this jolly holiday!

Lady G stares down a micro-scope at this "thing" they brought for her to inspect....wow, the things that have occurred in this town and now we have stalkers to try and get rid of. As she watches these particles from this object circle around each other and reconnect...she wonders how exactly they are going to figure all this out.

G's mind wonders...why of all places in the world would they pick ACville to come to, what were they looking for, what were they doing...curiosity invades her, if only she could get in a "zone" and see what was going on in there.

Her mind comes back to the task at hand, and she thinks to herself...we are going to have to watch everyone closely and see what changes we see in them, who can she trust, who can she talk to and HOW are they going to figure out who was "changed" to a stalker....
