Too big a filter?

I couldn't resist the summer sale on Fosters/Smith and got a Magnum Pro 350 (w/biowheel); but then I decided to only start a new 29 gal (fresh) tank. I'm worried this will be overkill. Should I exchange it and get a Fluval 204 instead? I've never had a canister filter before (use an Aquaclear on my 20L tank). Also, the Magnum only has one media chamber, and I usually use different media. I have a planted tank, where I use Purigen instead of charcoal, some peat cause the water is hard, etc. My new tank will be planted too, with mostly tetras, barbs and corys (I've had tanks for years, but I think I still qualify as a newbie). Any suggestions?

There's no such thing as to big of filter. You can not over filter a tank no matter what. The only problem you can have is if your tank is turning into a hot tub, with the fish not able to stay where they want to be. Canisters are great for planted tanks because they keep the CO2 they need it, while with a HOB most gasses off.
