I've read several places that a common and quick way to make green water for like dapnia, scuds, etc., is to use Miracle Grow (MG).

Is the dry type OK? I checked between and the liquid. Other than the dry being significantly cheaper, it had more nitrogen (and greater % of urea in the nitrogen).

If that is OK to use, approximately how much is needed, say for a 16 ounce bottle?

And once algae starts forming, when is it safe to use? If there is excess MG in the bottle will it harm what it's being fed to?

Should I put in a drop of Prime after adding the MG too?

I bought a starter colony of dapnia from Ebay. They arrived very active. The seller included a bottle of green water with them. I put the daphnia in a container and added maybe 2-3 ounces of the green water to the container. Everything was the same temperature. The next morning when I checked them they were all dead.

I'm hoping to find someone from the board here that can provide me with another starter colony cheap and I'm wanting to get green water ready ahead of time.
