Are Malaysian Trumpet snails (MTS) safe in a Jewel Cichlid tank?
I didn't buy them yet, but here a photo I got off eBay.

They have very hard shells and can close up a door to hide out. They also don't come out much during the day. Worst case your fish nip at them a little, but that's a good thing. It will let the snails know they can't come out when the lights are on.

I wouldn't say this is a good thing. It would be less harmful for the snails to be out when the lights are on than be nipped at by
large fish, which could be damaging.

How about Blood parrots.. . could they choke on these snails? I think the snails are small enough for them to sallow as a whole.

I keep MTS in my african cichlid tanks and they tried to mess with them in the very beginning but since they don't even notice them. Not even when they hang out on the sides of the tank. They breed in there, and I have some monster MTS that have grown in there.

^really? My afros, including red jewels, destroyed my mts.

They should be fine unless the Jewel Cichlids are still really small. I lost my favorite GBR because he tried to eat one and it got lodged in his throat. A medium to large Jewel Cichlids shouldnt have any problems with them though, even if they do try to eat them.

I wish i wouldve known you wanted some MTS a few weeks ago. I pulled out a few hundred of them when i cleaned my 55g and gave them to a friend. I wouldve gladly shipped you some for free. If youre willing to wait a month or two ill probably have a few hundred more. They dont waste any time when it comes to reproducing. I guess thats one of the advantages of being asexual lol

I'd be happy to wait a month or two.
I don't need that many, just 3 or 4 would be just fine.

I actually ordered 100 of them only to find out they reproduce quickly, I then canceled my order because I read too many horror stories about people not being able to get rid of them.

they might eat a few as a snack, I never see them actually going after them. And yeah, I've got tons in there. Most of them in that tank are yellow labs.
